Abstract
1,164,100. Terminals. AMP Inc. 29 Aug., 1968 [13 Sept., 1967], No. 41259/68. Heading H2E. A terminal assembly for aluminium conductors comprises perforated conductive sleeve 4 fitting into tubular plated copper ferrule part 3 of terminal 1 and metal sleeve 5 having a reduced diameter portion 6 which receives ferrule 3, sleeve 4 being of a metal having a tensile strength greater than that of aluminium, e.g. tin-plated brass. Portion 7 of sleeve 5 is enlarged to receive sealing plastics bushing 8. The stripped portion of an insulated aluminium conductor penetrates sleeve 4 within ferrule 3, and an insulated portion penetrates bushing 8. After insulating sleeve 9 has been shrunk on to the assembly, the terminal and wire are secured together by crimping at three zones corresponding to the bushing 8, a rear portion of sleeve 4 and a forward portion thereof with increasing crimping deformation (Fig. 3, not shown).
