Abstract

960,291. Cable and wire couplings. AMP Inc. April 30, 1963 [May 8, 1962], No. 17594/62. Heading H2E. An electrical connector comprises three ferrule forming portions, the central one, 2, being perforated, with the perforations 3 left upstanding so that when the ferrule is crimped on to a cable they key into the copper braid of the cable shield 9, and the two outer ferrules 5 and 6 crimp on to a lead, one being crimped to the bared end of the lead 14, and the other to the insulation 15, so that the lead lies parallel to the cable. In a modification, Figs. 3, 4 and 5 (not shown), the perforations are omitted and two spikes formed integrally with the central ferrule can pierce the insulation and embrace the braid when the ferrule is crimped to the cable. This obviates the need to strip the insulation from the cable.
