Abstract

987,138. Two-part couplings. UNITED-CARR Inc. Aug. 27, 1962 [Dec. 26, 1961], No. 32874/62. Heading H2E. A double-ended connector consists of a casing in which is mounted an insulating body which carries contacts which form plugs at one end and sockets at the other and which have wires connected to each contact. As shown, Fig. 6, the contacts consist of a resilient strip of metal which is folded to form a plug 84. One end of the strip is formed into a resilient socket 82 and is provided with a shoulder 96 and a tab 92 to retain the contact in the body. The other end of the strip is formed with fingers 102, 104, 106 which are crimped round a conductor, which may be stripped or else teeth may be provided on the contact which penetrate the insulation of the conductor. As shown, Fig. 3, the body is formed in two parts 66a, 66b which have bores to accept the contacts and are spaced, 70, to provide a passage for the conductors 108. The casing is in two parts held together by screw 60 engaging associated plugs on the casings. A cord grip 46 is provided, half on each casing which can be tightened on to the cables. Polarizing pins 80a may be incorporated in the connector. The connector may be used for a telephone system in which a plurality of wires from each handset are connected to the contacts of a connector and thus may be connected in parallel with other handsets by plugging one connector into another.
