Abstract

768,242. Two-part couplings; holders for thermionic valves. EDISON SWAN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 22, 1954 [Feb. 1, 1954], No. 2949/54. Class 38 (1). A socket contact for the pin of, for example, a thermionic valve, is made by cutting a sheet metal blank to form a pair of prongs 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and a tag 1, and contouring the prongs by a pressing operation between dies, so as to twist both prongs in the same angular direction about their individual longitudinal axes and at the same time to cause their free ends to overlie each other. The radius of curvature caused by the twisting is greatest at the line of separation 4 and decreases progressively to the outer edge. The tips are swaged to provide ramps 13, 14.
