Abstract
842,447. Two-part couplings; holders for thermionic valves. SIEMENS EDISON SWAN Ltd. Sept. 30, 1957 [Oct. 8, 1956], No. 30631/56. Class 38(1). A socket contact formed of sheet metal comprises prongs 2, 3, and a tag portion 4, the prongs being twisted' in the same direction about parallel longitudinal axes to form laterally extending bends. The radius of curvature of each bend is greatest at the ,line of separation of the prong and decreases progressively to the outer edge so that the free ends 9, 10, of the prongs overlie each other. These ends are extended to form a pair of feet 11, 12, adapted to engage an electrical connection pin lying between them. As shown, the side edges 13, 14 are swaged to assist insertion of a pin. Alternatively, the edges 15, 16, can be swaged for this purpose. An end portion 18 of the tag extends perpendicularly to the prongs so as to provide means for making an electrical connection, and a shoulder 20 assists in location of the contact in an assembly. An assembly comprising a number of contacts secured to an insulating body may be formed so that the pins, when inserted, lie in a direction generally transverse of the longitudinal axes of the prongs. In another arrangement, the inserted pins are generally parallel to the longitudinal axes, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown).
