Abstract

966,365. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. July 10, 1963 [July 16, 1962], No. 27358/63. Heading H2E. An electrical connector (Fig. 1) has a pin portion 5 formed by rolling up a sheet metal blank such that the edge portions 6 of the blank are rolled up inside the pin portion (Fig. 3). The connector is formed with a serrated ferruleforming portion 1 which may be crimped to the bared end of an insulated lead. A metal sleeve 3 and an encasing insulating sleeve 4 are arranged to be crimped to the insulation of the lead and to cover the ferrule portion 1. The pin is formed as a pair of parallel open tubes 8 joined by a convex base portion 9, for engaging a receptacle for the pin. The outsides of the tubes 8 touch and together form a relatively flat contact surface opposite the curved base 9. The pin may be inserted into an aperture in a metal connector block and clamped in position by a screw, driven through a tapped aperture in the block, perpendicular to the pin, to engage the contact surface provided by the tubes 8. Tightening of the screw resiliently deforms the pin by bending the edge portions 6 inwards. The resulting outward elastic force urges the screw into tighter engagement with the aperture screw-thread, thus preventing loosening of the screw due to vibration. Specification 924,819 is referred to.
