Abstract

811,589. Two-part couplings. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. Aug. 2, 1957 [Aug. 24, 1956], No. 26030/56. Class 38 (1). In a coaxial cable connector comprising a tubular metal body 1 containing an insulated central pin contact 6 and externally screwthreaded at one end 4 for engagement by an internally screw-threaded sleeve 11, the sleeve 11 has a tapered bore 16 at its outer end which co-operates with the conical surface 28 of a collet 20 which, in the assembled condition of the connector, exerts radial clamping pressure on the insulation 33 of the coaxial cable 32 and also forces the outer conductor 34 into engagement with a metal contact 18 inserted beneath it, said contact 18 having a flange 19 at its inner end which is pressed against the body 1 on tightening the sleeve 11. Both the collet 20 and sleeve 11 are preferably formed of insulating material. Fig. 1 (Complete) shows another construction wherein the central pin is replaced by a socket 40 and the flange 19 of the metal contact 18 has two tongues 46 pressed out therefrom which engage and hold firmly in position the central contact assembly.
