Abstract

1408893 Continuity couplings WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 14 Sept 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 42622/72 Heading H2E A connector for the conducting shield 42 of a cable comprises two members 10, 20 adapted to be assembled together, the first member having a conducting plate portion for insertion beneath the shield and in contact therewith, one member having a portion to act as a fulcrum for the two members as they are assembled so that the said plate portion of the first member and a plate portion of the second member clamp the shield therebetween. The first member comprises a plate 10 with a tab 14 serving as the fulcrum and a screw threaded stud 11, and in use one end is inserted beneath the shield at one end until the stud butts the end. The second member comprises a plate 20 apertured to receive the stud and having tangs (22) for biting against the outer plastics jacket 43 of the cable. Tightening of nuts 30 on the stud causes the two plates to clamp against the shield 42 and jacket 43 with the plate 20 turning about the tab 14; a notch (not shown) may be present on the inner surface 23 of the plate 20 as a seat for the tab 14. The inner surface of the plate 10 has an insulating layer 16. A conductor 50 is attached to the stud 11 and tabs 14 are provided to retain a cable clamp (not shown) on the connector if desired.
