Abstract

1,149,816. Two-part couplings. HELLERMAN DEUTSCH Ltd. 5 Oct., 1967 [11 Oct., 1966], No. 45372/67. Heading H2E. Contact 18, which as shown forms part of a multiple pin and socket connector assembly, is retained within the wide portion 45 of bore 15 through insulating body 10, by means of clip 26 consisting of a longitudinal slotted tube with tabs 28, 29 formed by making L-shaped cuts and bending inwardly, the circumferential portions 38, 41 of the tabs being adjacent a shoulder 51 on contact 18 and preventing its withdrawal. Insulated wire 22 is crimped to contact 18 which is then pushed into the clip, prising the tabs apart until end portion 48 passes them and abuts shoulder 47 on the insulating body. To release the contact, a slotted tube (Fig. 6, not shown) is slid over the wire and pushed into the clip, prising the tabs apart. The insulating body 10 has a main portion 12 of rigid material, and softer portions 13 abutting the mating connector assembly 11, and 14 at its rearward end with a resilient bead 23 to grip and seal the wire. The clip may also be used in a terminal junction, e.g. in making a connection to a bus-bar (Fig. 7, not shown).
