Abstract

936,573. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. June 27, 1962 [July 18, 1961], No. 24649/62. Class 38 (1). An electrical connector comprises an electrical contact portion and a ferrule forming portion for crimping to an electrical conductor, the two portions lying alongside one another and connected by struts one at least of which is deformable to take up any extension due to the crimping. As shown, Fig. 1, a connector 16 of the kind described in Specification 793,654, receives a tag 24 and is joined to a ferrule forming portion 2 by struts 28, 30. The ferrule forming portion 2 has a part 4 with grooves 14 which is crimped to the bared core 6 of a wire 8 and a part 10 which is crimped to the insulation 12. The strut 30 is L-shaped and rigid while the strut 28 is of rectangular crosssection and has a notch adjacent its junction with the connector portion 16 to facilitate its deformation. When the ferrule forming portion 2 is crimped it is extruded longitudinally and the strut 28 is deformed, thus preventing damage to the connector portion 16. The strut may be resilient.
