Abstract

1,124,865. Wire crimping ferrule. AMP CORP. 20 Feb., 1967 [9 March, 1966], No. 7945/67. Heading H2E. A crimpable ferrule for an electric terminal or connector comprises a conductive sleeve 1 with raised, rectangular cross-section, circumferential corrugations 2 having inwardly directed troughs 4 and gapped, conductive annular members 5 located within troughs 4. On crimping the ferrule to a wire (8, Fig. 3, not shown), the corrugations (2) are pressed substantially flush with the outer surface of sleeve (1) and annular members (5) are reduced in diameter and pressed into the wire (8). The ferrule may be formed integrally with an electric contact element or may be used for splicing two wires, one corrugation and corresponding annular member being provided for each wire. Sleeve 1 may be of a malleable material, and annular members 5 of a harder material.
