Abstract

951,738. Couplings. AMP Inc. Dec. 17, 1962 [Dec. 22, 1961]. No.46015/61. Heading H2E. An earthing connection is made between a crimped ferrule 15, and an electrical shield 11, surrounding a conductive core 10, the two separated by an insulating sleeve 12. The ferrule 15 has holes punched in it with the metal from the holes left standing up internally of the ferrule so that it keys into the braided shield but does not penetrate the insulation. An earth wire 14 is inserted between the ferrule 15 and the insulation 12. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), no earth wire is provided and one edge of the ferrule, 15, is prolonged to provide a tab with a hole for receiving a securing bolt. A machine is described for applying the ferrules and earth wires by automatic crimping and severing.
