Abstract

1,272,797. Connector for shielded conductors. THOMAS & BETTS CORP. 24 Oct., 1969 [12 Nov., 1968], No. 52236/69. Heading H2E. An earth lead is connected to the shield (102), Fig. 9 (not shown), of a coaxial cable or to another conductor by means of a connector 20 of generally C shape, Fig. 2 (not shown), having a central part 22 with strengthening ribs 24, and strain relief shoulders 26. The earth connector is mounted behind tab 32, see Fig. 8 (not shown), the connector mounted over the coaxial cable, see Fig. 9 (nor shown), and wrapped about it, Fig. 10 (not shown), a shoulder 26 engaging the outer insulation of the cable, providing strain relief for it and the other conductor. An earth connection may be made without breaking the main cable, Fig. 12 (not shown). The connector may have an insulating coating, except for the tab 32, see Fig. 3 (not shown), or may have an earth tab which may be plugged into a socket at either side, Fig. 5 (not shown), or may have teeth (82), Fig. 6 (not shown), so that the connector may be wrapped about the cable without stripping the insulation, the teeth penetrating the latter. In the case of a termination, Fig. 9 (not shown), the free shoulder 26 may engage a terminal pin.
