Abstract

1340082 Electric couplings J J KLOSIN 14 Dec 1970 [22 Jan 1970] 59247/70 Heading H2E An electrical connector 80, Fig. 3, comprises a deformable attaching body 82, which partially surrounds an insulated cable 70, and conductive teeth 86, which, on compression of the body 82, pierce the cable insulation to electrically contact the cable core. Body 82, which may be of aluminium, has a weakened portion 84 which gives upon compression of the body. The connector is covered by a layer of insulation 90, the insulation over the teeth 86 being stripped off as they penetrate the cable to form cushions 94. The connector may be part of a tap connector, Fig. 4, having a lead off portion 91 which is electrically connected to body 82 and has a passage 92 to receive a take-off cable. The cable 70 may have a helically stranded conductor and the teeth 86 may be so spaced as to enter between the strands at like points in the helix. Another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), comprises a U- shaped conductive bar (114) with, at one end, an attaching body (102) and at the other end a hook (120) which in use is supported by the cable 70. A tap line is connected to the bar (114). In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the bar (114) has an attaching body at each end. In a further embodiment a T-junction (140, Fig. 8, not shown), which is used for electrically connecting two cables has four attaching bodies electrically connected by a conductive frame. This embodiment can alternatively be employed as a junction box for three cables. Fig. 11 (not shown) depicts a connector in which the teeth and attaching body are screwed together. Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown) depict embodiments in which the teeth are directly connected to current-carrying means, so that the attaching body may be insulating.
