Abstract

1,089,298. Cable and wire couplings. COMMUNICATIONS PATENTS Ltd. Oct. 21, 1964 [Oct. 25, 1963], No. 42145/63. Heading H2E. An electrical connection is effected by engaging a socket member 7 over a tubular plug member 1 and trapping a cable 3 longitudinally between them so that the cable insulation 4 is displaced and electrical connection is made from the bared conductor core 6 to at least one of the two members. The width of the passageway between the plug and socket members is less than the diameter of the cable core to be connected in it, and the cable end is passed into the end of the plug member 1. The plug and socket members may both be conductive or the socket may be of insulating material, arid the plug may be mounted on a board 2 and cut as an electrically conductive fixed terminal. The plug and socket members are preferably of circular cross-section but may be adapted for a particular purpose by having other crosssections. The socket member may be forced over the plug member by a hand tool, the engagement force being applied through flange 9. A single plug and socket assembly can be used to establish electrical connection with a plurality of separate insulated conductors.
