Abstract

900,277. Screened two-part couplings. BODDINGTON & CO. Ltd., W. H. Oct. 7, 1960 [March 22, 1960], No. 10200/60. Class 38 (1). A connector for screened or coaxial cable is moulded from insulating material and is provided with a highly conductive layer on its surface for continuity of the cable screening at the join. The coaxial plug shown has its body 2 and cap 14 moulded from a plastic such as nylon, the body 2 having a highly conductive coating 18, e.g. of electro-deposited silver so that when a cable partially stripped as shown is pushed into the plug the braid screening 3 is pushed over shoulder 12 and engages the conductive coating. The central conductor 3 of the cable is soldered within a hollow pin 1 and the cap 14 screwed on sufficiently hard to deform the tubular portion 12 into contact with the inner insulation 21 of the cable, thus providing a good mechanical connection. With female connectors (not shown), the conductive layer must extend to the inner surface of the socket or be connected to a metal insert.
