Abstract

917,995. Two-part couplings; plug boards. BURNDY CORPORATION. March 20, 1961 [March 23, 1960], No. 10003/61. Class 38 (1). A two-part multiple plug and socket connector particularly for coaxial plugs and sockets in which the outer conductors of each plug or socket are all connected to earth, comprises, as shown, a metal connector body 9 having a plurality of cavities 11 in each of which is disposed a contact spring 23 retained in place by a bead 13 and an internal lip 19 on an aligning hole 17 in a cover member 15. A female coaxial plug having an outer conductor 1 with an area 3 of reduced diameter, a shoulder 5 and an interlocking spring 7 is inserted through the hole 17 into cavity 11 and the contact spring 23 makes contact with area 3, the interlocking spring 7 snaps behind the bead 13 and the shoulder 5 abuts lip 19. The plug is thus removably connected to the connector body and to the outer conductors of any other plugs which may be inserted in the connector. Connector body 9 engages a mating connector body 109 to which is connected one or more male coaxial plugs 101 in a similar fashion to the plug 1 and body 9 and in the engaged position the corresponding coaxial plugs 1 and 101 are also engaged. In further embodiments the connector bodies are of plastic with moulded-in locking inserts which engage the interlocking springs 7 on each plug and the outer conductors of the plugs are earthed to the cover member by means of either spring contacts on the cover member or contact-springs carried by the plugs.
