Abstract

1447499 Two-part couplings G & H TECHNOLOGY Inc 13 Aug 1973 [7 Sept 1972] 12376/76 Divided out of 1447497 Heading H2E In a two-part plug and socket connector the contacts of one part are movable within their part between a first position in which they engage the contacts of the other part and a second position in which they do not engage the other part contacts while the two parts are mated, the connector comprising means which moves the contacts to the first position and also operates a collet lock to secure the two parts together in their mated condition. The plug 134 comprises a shell 136 holding insulators 146 and pin contacts, a sleeve 154 screw-threadably mounted on the shell which is rotated against a flange 21 on the socket 16 and to move the shell, inserts and contacts within the sleeve for electrical mating-all substantially as described in Specification 1,447,497-and a cylindrical member 164 attached to the sleeve and slidable along the shell. Resilient fingers 166 project axially from the shell each having an enlarged end 168 which, in use, seats in a recess 96 behind a shoulder 197. A collet 170 is slidable along the fingers, being loaded at one side by a spring 174 and engaged on the other side by a shoulder 172 on the shell 136; in use, the collet moves with the shell when the sleeve is turned to surround the ends 168 and hold them in the recess 96. A lanyard (176) may be secured to the collet for remote disconnection.
