Abstract
1,088,803. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. March 17, 1966 [April 7, 1965], No. 11636/66. Heading H2E. The plug-and-socket parts 3 and 2 of a multicontact connector each comprise two spaced rigid insulating discs 10 and 6 with respective bores out of alignment, the discs being axially movable towards each other from a position in which they are sufficiently spaced to enable the insertion of contacts 26 to a position in which they are sufficiently close to retain the contacts. A resilient spacing disc 8 may be bonded to the discs 10 and 6, and the disc 6 may be bonded to a surrounding metal shell 4. The disc 10 is movable by a nut 36 which engages the ears 32 of the disc, or alternatively by a camming ring. A stud 21 on the plug part 3 can be engaged by a helical groove in a coupling ring 13 on the socket part 2. The fixed disc 6 of the socket part has shoulders against which the contacts abut and conical entrances for guiding the plug contacts 9.
