Abstract

1440827 Two-part couplings BUNKER RAMO CORP 22 Aug 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 39824/73 Heading H2E An electric connector assembly comprises connector parts 20, 22 each mounted in a respective housing element (i.e. a container 16 and shell 18), the elements each having latching elements 66, 70 which in the mated condition are interconnected to prevent separation longitudinally of the assembly while interconnection of the connector parts prevents transverse relative movement. The shell is a single plastics moulding with a notch 38 and half collar 40 serving as a cable entry and has a pair of slots 58 and spaces 78 in which end elements 64 of the socket 22 engage in order to mount the socket in the shell. Latching elements 66 comprise a dependent resilient blade 68 with a shoulder 70 and a camming surface 72. The container 16 has a cable attaching means 24 and receives a plug 20 through its open side 26 which seats on stops 28. In use the shell and container with their socket and plug are moved towards each other, the camming surfaces 72 riding over latching elements 34 until the shoulders 70 snap therebehind as the plug and socket intergage; in the mated condition the only physical contact between the shell and container is that between the shoulders 70 and elements 34, interengagement of the connector parts preventing relative transverse movement.
