Abstract

1,041,008. Two-part couplings. ELCO CORPORATION. April 7, 1965 [April 9, 1964], No. 14789/65. Heading H2E. An electrical connector comprises two interfitting insulating housings 12 and 14, each carrying hermophroditic connectors 16 in passages through the housings, both housings having a shoulder 38 and 80, and a groove 56 so that a locking lug 18 can be secured in the groove 56 in either housing to lock the two housings together by the shoulder 110 on the lug riding over the shoulders 38 or 80 on the other member. The housings carry tongues 48 on one side and grooves 50 on the other so that a number of housings may be fitted together. The contacts are held in the body by resilient tongues 128 (Fig. 4, not shown), engaging behind shoulders in the bore of the body. Both housings have fingers 34, 36, 76 and 78 which enable either housing to be mounted on a panel 20. The housing 14 has a forwardly projecting portion 74 which has one outer surface corrugated to mate with a similarly corrugated surface inside member 12 to provide polarization.
