Abstract

964,839. Two-part couplings. ELECTRO METHODS Ltd. Aug. 8, 1963 [Aug. 15, 1962], No. 31268/62. Heading H2E. An electrical socket connector, e.g. a printed circuit board connector comprises a recessed housing, 1 and 2, containing at least one pair of opposed contact elements 3, each contact being resilient and having an end portion 6, rounded convexly towards the other contact element, this end portion being followed by a portion 7, that is at least twice folded back upon itself and has a number of branches of which the intermediate branch 12, can touch the preceding branch, by means of an indentation 9, at the top of the preceding branch 8, and a succeeding branch 13, being inclined relative to the recess wall 14, and the inclined branch 13 being connected to a terminal 15, extending outside the connector. When the printed circuit board or plug member is introduced the rounded end portions 6 are forced resiliently apart and the branches are forced towards the adjacent wall 14, of the recess. The contacts 3 are held in position by detent tongues 4, and an abutment of insulating material 17, formed integrally with the housing is provided between the contacts to prevent direct contact between them. A slit 16, is provided centrally along each contact to make them laterally resilient and the contacts may be electroplated with a suitable metal.
