Abstract

1,209,327. Two-part couplings. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 26 Sept., 1967 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 43839/67. Heading H2E. Wires 11 in multiconductor flat cable 10 are located in ridges 13 in the insulation which cooperate with grooves 19 in connector base 15 for correct alignment of the cable end, the connector body 22 carrying, in openings 25 each aligned with a groove 19 and one of slots 20, contacts 26 having prongs 33 which pierce the cable insulation and make direct contact with the wires. Openings 25 comprise a substantially slot-shaped part 48 extending through body 22 for the prongs 33, and another part 51 extending only partially into body 22 and accommodating part of contacts 26 bent to form a resilient socket connection for, e.g. wire-wrap pins (Fig. 7-not shown). Pins 17 in base 15 and pins 28 in cover 27 fit into centrally constructed apertures 23, 24 in body 22. Cover 27 has openings which are aligned with the parts 51 of openings 25, and have walls which converge to give a smaller cross-section than 51.
