Description

IMPROVEMENTO IN CONNECTOR This is a divisional application of Patent Specification The present application relates to an electrical and particularly to one but not useful in the appliance connector of Patent Specification Many types of electrical contacts are in but the known as a do not satisfactorily meet all the requirements of appliance connectors used in the wiring of electrical appliances such as vending washing machines and particularly with respect to the requirements for properties ability to receive another contact of identical tibility to modern mass production and ability of the electrical contact to be easily attached to the appliance The present invention aims to provide an electrical contact having improvements in the above According to the present there is provided an electrical contact including a pair of transversely longitudinally tubular the internals dimension of one cylinder being substantially equal to the external dimension of the other whereby the electrical contact will mate with a similarly constructed electrical said pair of spaced tubular cylinders being separated by a flat shelf member which extends between and interconnects said each of said tubular cylinders being said electrical contact further including a pair of resilient locking lances projecting from Pile 18951 Further features and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the description The invention is herein for purposes of with reference to the accompanying 1 is a perspective view of an electrical contact constructed in accordance with the present 2 is a front elevational view of the contact of 1 taken along the lines of of 3 is a sectional view taken along the lines of 4 is side elevational view on a reduced scale of the contact of and 5 is a top plan view showing two contacts of 1 about to be mated The electrical contact illustrated in the ings is one specially designed for use with the appliance connector of Patent Specification Details of such appliance as well as how the electrical contact of the present application is used may be had by a reference to that patent The electrical contact of the present application is generally designated l6 and includes a head tion a section and a tail As apparent from the it may be made of stamped and formed metal and is therefore susceptible to modern mass production The head section Ilk includes a pair of versely longitudinally cylinders 120 and Cylinder 120 the male element and is in the nature of a taper where tubular cylinder 122 constitutes the female element and is in the nature of a barrel or a both as illustrated particularly in It be seen that the internal sectional dimension of cylinder 120 is substantially equal to the dimension of cylinder whereby the electrical contact will mate with a similarly constructed as shown in thus the electrical contact is hermaphroditic in the sense that it can be used either as the male or as the female part and can mate with contact of like The two cylinders 120 and 122 are spaced apart by a flat 119 which extends between and interconnects the two The free end end in the male cylinder is tapered and extends forwardly of free end of the female cylinder to facilitate entry into a similarly constructed electrical contact when mating during The body section ll6 of the contact includes a forward panel and a rear panel 126 with a locking lance 128 extending from each of the panels The tail section consists of forward circular wings and rearward like wings order to grasp a bared lead of an outside circuit wire to be crimped The mating of contac s l6 is illustrated in 5 wherein the male element 120 of the right contact is about to enter the female element 122 of the left and the female element 122 of the right contact about to be entered by the male elrament of the left The locking lances 128 are resilient and snap into place in suitable slots or openings in the appliance connector to lock the electrical contact within the appliance For further details of the manner of attaching the electrical contact within the appliance reference may be had to Patent Specification Many variations and other applications of the invention will be insufficientOCRQuality

Claims (3)

P.A.31733/2 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. An electrical contact including a pair of transversely spaced, longitudinally parallel, tubular cylinders, the internal cross-sectional dimension of one cylinder being substantially equal to the external cross-sectional dimension of the other cylinder* whereby the electrical contact will mate with a similarly constructed electrical contact, said pair of spaced tubular cylinders being separated by a flat shelf member which extends between and interconnects said cylinders, each of said tubular cylinders being split, said electrical contact further including a pair of resilient locking lances projecting from the sides thereof, enabling the contact to be simply snapped in place in an appliance connector.
2. An electrical contact according to Claim 1, wherein the free end of said other cylinder is tapered and extends forwardly of the free end of said one cylinder to facilitate entry into a complimentary cylinder of a similarly constructed electrical contact.
3. An electrical contact substantially as described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
