Abstract

1324390 Two part couplings BUNKER RAMO CORP 28 Oct 1970 [10 Nov 1969] 51298/70 Heading H2E A coupling has at least one plug 26 and one socket 24, each comprising an insulating body with a multiplicity of conductive contacts 38, 86 mounted thereon in fixed relative positions, one of the bodies having a compensating member 44 mounted thereon and positioned between said bodies, the compensating member having a plurality of bridging contacts 40 each engageable with a respective one of each of the contacts 38, 86 and being transversely shiftable with respect to the contacts of said one of the bodies to compensate for errors in alignment between the bodies. A plug, Fig. 3, comprises a block 42 with a compensating block 44 mounted thereon by bushes 46 extending through slots 50 to permit limited transverse movement of the block 44 with respect to the block 42. The bridging contacts 40 engageable with the contacts 38 on the side surfaces 36 of the mating socket, are each contained in a T-shaped groove 56 and comprise a resilient portion 64, a contact surface 66, a body portion 70 having a tang 72 engaging a shoulder 74 in the slot with an extension 76 with a contact surface 84. Each contact surface 84 engages a respective portion 92 of a contact 86 disposed in and extending through the block 42 with a portion 90 protruding for connection to the electrical system to which the coupling is adapted.
