Abstract

1465723 Two-part couplings AMP Inc 17 May 1974 [7 June 1973] 21948/74 Heading H2E A connector comprises an insulating housing 10 with a plurality of apertures each receiving a respective contact, each contact comprising a terminal portion 20 (which may, e.g. be soldered to a contact of a printed circuit board 36), and a mating portion 18 extending out of its aperture and mounted in a cantilever fashion for flexure in one plane, all the second portions being flexible in the same or in parallel planes The contacts are shown mounted in two rows in apertures between housing portions 30, 32, 34 of different heights so that the terminal portions 20 emerge along surfaces 48, 50 in two rows, the apertures comprising parallel side wall portions 40 and (44), which restrain movement of the terminal portions 20, and convergent side wall portions 38 and parallel side wall portions (42) around the mating portions 18 which permit flexing of the mating portion in the plane of Fig. 2 but not in the plane perpendicular thereto. Wall portions (44) merge with wall portions (42) via a bevelled portion (46, Fig. 3) which receives a bevelled piece (21) of the contact to prevent longitudinal movement within the housing. A skirt 58 along each side of the housing 10 fits a complementary recess in the housing 14 of a mating connector; a pin (52) at each end of the housing 10 fits an aperture (54) in the housing 14.
