Abstract

1,188,045. Edge connectors. AMP Inc. 13 Nov., 1968 [6 Dec., 1967], No. 53830/68. Heading H2E. In a printed circuit edge connector comprising aninsulating housing 1 and a plurality of spring metal contacts 6 each mounted in a cavity 5 therein, each arm of the loop-shaped contacts 6 is stressed, one arm being stressed between post 19 which abuts wall 21<1> and a bight 17 which abuts wall 22 and the other arm between bight 17 and the free end 15 which locates behind a central wall 23 so that the contact faces on the second arm are preloaded, the upper face under the influence of stresses in the first arm and the lower face under the influence of both arms. As a result, when the circuit board 3 is inserted the contact faces exert an even pressure on the board and wear of the contacts, which may be gold-plated, is reduced. A wiring tail 25 is provided. The contacts are divided by longitudinal slots (not shown) which extend centrally along the contacts between points a and b.
