Abstract
1,244,706. Two-part couplings. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 14 April, 1970 [28 April, 1969], No. 17596/70. Heading H2E. A connector assembly comprises an insulating plate 10, e.g. a printed circuit board, having connector pins 12 extending from one face and a conductive honeycomb structure 14 mounted on plate 10 so that each pin is contained within a cell of the honeycomb but is not in electrical contact, the cells serving as guides for coaxial terminals 20 so that the central socket terminal mates with a pin 12, and as a common earth for the coaxial terminals. As shown, the honeycomb structure comprises strips of, e.g., phosphor bronze assembled together by means of interfitting lateral slits extending to half the strip width. The contact portions of the structure may be gold-plated, the mating mechanic. ally connecting parts solder-coated for subsequent securing together by heating. Spring tongues 48 may be cut out to improve electrical connection with the coaxial terminals, or the latter may have outwardly biased spring contacts (Fig. 4, not shown). For interconnecting sets of coaxial terminals at different common potentials, the honeycomb structure may be formed of insulating material coated with metal at the electrical contact areas and the joining zones, appropriate contact areas being electrically interconnected (Fig. 5, not shown).
