Abstract

857,344. Two-part couplings. SOURIAU & CIE. Feb. 12, 1958 [March 1, 1957; July 25, 1957], No. 4606/58. Class 38(1) The plug and socket parts of a cable connector 5, 2, are' brought into the engaged position by rotation of a sleeve 12 having studs 17 engaging with helical grooves in part 2, and an abutment 15 engaging with shoulder 16 on part 5, a resilient bent annular disc 19 locking the sleeve in the engaged or disengaged position. Locking member 19 has lugs 32 co-operating with sleeve 12 and curved projections 21 engaging with correspondingly shaped recesses 22 in face 23 of member 5. The joint is sealed and the insulating contact carrying cores 3 and 6 are secured by plastic or rubber-like insulating sleeves 24, 26, a supplementary rubber or similar sealing washer 28 being provided in association with the latter and having blind holes 29 which are pierced on assembly to take the cable core 9. Members 5, 2 have at least a co-operating spline and groove to prevent relative rotation. An arrangement for locking the insulating core 6 against rotation in the member 5 consists of a ring 40 (Fig. 5), having a projection 41, which is sprung on the rear end 42 of core 6 with projection 41 engaging in a selected one of a number of recesses x, y, z and, when core 6 is inserted into member 5, with a recess 43 in the latter.
