Abstract

911,713. Two-part couplings. LIGHT & POWER ACCESSORIES CO. Ltd. April 27, 1961 [June 22, 1960], No. 21854/60. Class 38 (1). A two-part plug and socket connector has a surrounding detachable rubber or neoprene sleeve 5B on one of its parts provided with axially projecting ears 5C shaped to provide internal pockets in which radial lugs 6 on the other part fit snugly when the two parts are fitted together, whereby the risk of accidental separation of the two parts is minimized. As shown, a plug part 1 and a socket part 2 comprise rubber or neoprene cases 1A and 2A respectively containing insulating blocks 3C and 4A, the blocks carrying co-operating contact pins and sockets. On the outer part of the casing 1A are two circumferential keyways 5 which receive beads 5A formedon the sleeve 5B so that it cannot twist relative to the casing 1A. When assembled the casings 1A and 2A and the sleeve 5B enclose the cooperating contacts in a fluid-tight seal. The sleeve is such that if the plug part 1 is inserted for instance in a bulkhead type socket fitting (Fig. 7, not shown), it may be displaced clear of the socket and its cover so that the ears 5C do not cause any hindrance to the full insertion of the plug part in the socket.
