Abstract

941,593. Two-part couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. Dec. 29, 1961 [Jan. 3, 1961], No. 46698/61. Heading H2E. Two mating connector halves 2, 4 have insulating contact housings 6, 18 and outer shells 10, 28 respectively, the latter interengaging in a fixed angular relationship determined, as shown, by a key and keyway 36, 34, the shell 28 being releasably secured by a spring detent 24 against rotation relative to the housing 18 to allow several relative orientations of the shell 28 and housing 18 with the latter is still within said shell. The housing 18, with asymmetrically mounted pin contacts 20, is immovably held in a rear shell 22 to which the spring detent 24 and a retaining ring 30 for rotatable shell 28 are riveted at 26. The detent 24 is biased against the shell 28 to engage one of a number of keyways 32 in its inner surface, thus securing shell 28 against rotation round shell 22. To change the orientation of shell 28 and housing 18, a tool is inserted into keyway 32 to release the detent, when the shell 28 may be rotated to another position. The connector halves 2, 4 are secured together by the engagement of a coupling nut on shell 22 with the complementarily threaded portion on the shell 10.
