[Also in Division H2] An electric contact socket comprises a tube 15 open at one end to receive a pin and closed at the other end, containing a U-shaped leaf spring having a long leg 22, an end part 23 which may be curved (Fig. 1) or straight and inclined at a large acute angle to the axis (Fig. 11, not shown) at the closed end of the tube and a short leg 22, arranged so that the pin is pressed against the side wall of the tube by the long leg, which is bowed towards the axis. Preferably, the leg of the spring has a crosssection concave towards the axis, and the tube has an indent 25 whose inner surface 26 has the same curvature as the pin 19 (Fig. 3, not shown). The spring may be made by driving a cut length of the spring material into a cylindrical die with a punch, the punch and die have radii whose difference is only slightly greater than the thickness of the spring (Figs. 5 to 9, not shown, and Fig. 10). The tube of the socket may be used as the die.
