Abstract

1415841 Lampholder contacts IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd 20 Dec 1972 [11 Jan 1972] 1231/72 Heading H2E [Also in Division B3] A mechanism (e.g. for electrical contact in a bayonet-cap lampholder) comprises a pressed cylindrical metal casing 1; a pressed metallic plunger 3 telescopically disposed partly within the casing 1; a hollow pressed cylindrical metallic stop 2 retained within a first end of the casing 1; and a spring 4 urging the plunger 2 towards the partly-closed, second end 11 of the casing 1, the plunger 2 having obturating means 10 engageable with the partly-closed second end 11. A first method of assembly comprises fastening the stop 2 at the first end of the casing 1 by press-fitting or by partly closing the first end; inserting the spring 4 and plunger 3 through the initially-open second end of the casing 1; and partly closing the second end to form the lip 11 illustrated. An alternative method of assembly comprises passing the plunger 3 and spacing 4 through the initially -open first end of the casing 1 towards the partly-closed end 11; inserting the stop 2 in the first end; and fastening the stop 2 either by a press fit or by partly closing the first end of the casing 1. The cylindrical members 1, 2 and 3 may be of brass or steel, and the spring may be of stainless or non-stainless steel, phosphor bronze or beryllium copper. A screw 5 may be provided for clamping a wire inserted into the cavity 7 through the first end 8. Alternatively a screw may pass into the first end 8 and threadably engage the end of the member 2, now inverted, to clamp a wire inserted through a hole in the side of the easing 1 near the first end. Instead of a screw connection, a tag may be struck up from the lip 8.
