Abstract

Two insulated lampholder pins are mounted in an existing type of bayonet lampholder. The pins are designed to be electrically disconnected until a bulb is installed into the lampholder. Each pin has an electrically conducting outer body to which a wire is screw attached and a spring-urged metal Y and insulating X inner body. When a bulb is absent, the outer body makes contact with the insulating part of the inner body at point X and hence the metal end Y of the inner body is isolated. An inserted lamp pushes the inner body against the spring so that the outer body contacts the inner body at point Y to interconnect it with the cable. The spring pressure would be such that it would allow a lamp to be inserted into the lampholder but would be too great as to allow a finger to push the pin in.

Description

INSULATED LAMPHOLDER PIN THIS INVENTION RELATES TO AN INSULATED LAMPHOLDER PIN.
Existing lampholder pins are universally used in bayonet type electrical lampholders. There are usually two pins fitted to each lampholder. They are used as a way of connecting a cable flex to a bulb. They are all basically the same design and are quite safe as long as the bulb is installed in the lampholder. A potential shock hazard arises when a bulb is removed though,as the pins become exposed and can become 'live'.
According to the present invention there is provided an insulated lampholder pin comprising an outer cylindrical body, an inner cylindrical body (sliding pin), a heavy duty spring, a spring retainer cap and a screw.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanied drawings which are listed on page 2.

FIGURE 6 SHOWS THE INSULATED LAMPHOLDER PIN ASSEMBLED.
FIGURE 7 SHOWS THE INSULATED LAMPHOLDER PIN IN AN INSULATED STATE.
FIGURE 8 SHOWS THE INSULATED LAMPHOLDER PIN IN A CONDUCTING STATE.
The outer cylindrical body contains the screw connection point for the cable and is made entirely of metal e.g brass. The inner cylindrical body slides inside the outer body and is made of metal e.g brass and a suitable insulating material e.g plastic.
The inner cylindrical body is spring tensioned. (When the two complete insulated lampholder pins are fitted to a lampholder the outer bodies would be concealed behind the plastic moulding of the lampholder).
Details from Figures 2,3 and 4 are fitted into the detail of Figure 1.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIM
    1. An insulated lampholder pin comprising an outer cylindrical body,an inner cylindrical body,a spring,a spring retainer cap and screw,so designed as to allow the spring tensioned inner body to move in or out of the outer body and hence connect or disconnect the electrical current to the tip of the inner body.
