Abstract

1,148,479. Electric couplings. AMP Inc. 28 Feb., 1968, No. 9547/68. Heading H2E. An electric connector supported on a printed circuit board 1, comprises two spaced and aligned U-shaped ferrules 5, 6 secured on board 1 by lugs 8 which pass through holes 4 in board 1 and are soldered to conductive paths on the remote side of board 1, each ferrule being adapted to receive and be crimped to a separate conductor 17, 19 of a coaxial cable 15. The ferrule 6 has spaced grooves 11 on the inside surface of its side walls and also has integral insulation engaging lugs 10. The coaxial cable 15 has tubular ferrules 20, 21 of hard metal over the outer surface of inner dielectric sheath 18, ferrule 20 fitting under outer conductor 17 and ferrule 21 having the stranded inner conductor 19 bent back spirally over it. An annular flange 22 on ferrule 21 abuts the end of sheath 18. After assembling the connector and coaxial cable, a crimping die (25, Figs. 4, 5, not shown) bends the side walls of ferrules 5 and 6 into engagement with respective ferrules 21, 20 and their associated conductors, insulation engaging lugs 10 being bent to engage the outer insulating sheath 16 of cable 15. If the outer conductor 17 is of tubular metal, ferrule 20 may be omitted.
