Abstract

1,091,382. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. June 8, 1966 [June 28, 1965], No. 25521/66. Heading H2E. Contact is made between a conductor 5 of a flat cable 3 and that of wire 18 by a brass connecter (11) (Fig. 1, not shown). This is generally U-shaped in cross-section, with a bent contact member (27) (Fig. 3, not shown) struck upwards from its base to above its sidewalls. A rectangular hole is made in the flat cable and its conductors bared, then it is applied to an apertured panel 1 and an insulating block (15) (Fig. 1, not shown) with connecters (11) held within it by engagement of tongues struck from the connector on ledges 10, 12, is pushed into the aperture. The contact member (27) of each connector then forces a conductor 5 against the wall 38 of the aperture in the panel 1, and makes electrical contact with it. At its other end the connector is crimped to a wire 18. The contact member (27) may be of varying width along its length, so that after bending its end overlaps the sides of the slot from which it was struck, and is supported by them when pressure is applied to the humped section.
