Abstract

1,100,738. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 27 June, 1966 [21 July, 1965], No. 28682/66. Heading H2E. A socket connector comprises a flat one-piece housing 28 having three parallel bores 34, 36 and 38, each housing a socket contact which is aligned with a slot (74) in the base of the housing (Fig. 3, not shown), and which extends perpendicularly to its bore, the contacts being arranged in a triangular array with a lead wire 8 which is connected to the contact in the central bore 36 being bent round the side of the housing and being gripped between flanges 80 and 82. Each contact (Fig. 9, not shown), is U-shaped, comprising a parallel pair of folded-back blades (48) and an apertured floor (52) extending from a rear portion which is crimped to the conductor and insulation of a lead 8. Detents (54) and tabs (59) on the contacts engage shoulders in the bores 34, 36 and 38. The connector may be used in the compressor unit of a refrigerator (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), when it is mated with one set of ends of rigid contact pins (16, 18, 20) of a plug member (14), which is welded to the compressor housing (4) so that the opposite ends of the pins (16, 18, 20) project outwardly of the compressor housing (4).
