Abstract

1354803 Interconnecting printed circuit boards LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc 1 Dec 1971 [18 Jan 1971] 55849/71 Heading H2E A connector assembly comprises a printed circuit board with a metal-coated hole 14 connectively receiving a portion of a plug connector, said portion comprising a resilient conductive wall of curved cross-section. Each plug 10 comprises a non-round end portion 20 a round which a wire may be wrapped, a central portion 22 comprising the curved resilient conductive wall with inwardly bent edges 26 and detents 28 for locating the plug in a hole 14, and an end portion 24 generally flat with bifurcated bent spring contact fingers 38 terminating in tabs 40. The plug is inserted into a printed circuit board with the central portion 22 engaging the coating 16; on insertion the central portion 22 including the edges 26 are deformed by manual compression of the portion 22 to reduce its diameter. Two parallel rows of plugs in the board 12 may be shrouded with an insulating guide 48 which has a slot 50 with ribs 52 having T-shaped ends 54 in which the tabs 40 are located. A second or daughter printed circuit board 44 is inserted in the slot, strips 46 connecting with the fingers 38, until it contacts a stop 56 in the slot, the detents 30 snapping over a shoulder 60. In the embodiment of Fig. 8, not shown, each portion 22 is foreshortened and the end portion 24 is box-shaped to form a female connector (63) for receiving a contact pin (68) of an integrated circuit. Contact of the central portion 22 may occur over more than 270 degrees of the circumference of the hole.
