Abstract

1362625 Two part couplings AMP Inc 17 Aug 1972 [30 Sept 1971] 38310/72 Heading H2E Connectors 12 are crimped to conductors 4 of a tape cable or flexible printed circuit and engage posts 6 on a base 8. The base 8 may be a printed circuit board or the posts 6 may interconnect conductors 4 of two or more cables (Fig. 10, not shown) or may connect several conductors 4 of one cable to earth through a further set of connectors 12 crimped to a piece of foil (not shown). Each post 6 may have an insulating portion so as to interconnect only two of three cables pushed over the post 6 and may incorporate a diode. When a connector 12 is crimped to the cable, the walls 16, which are tapered at 18 and bevelled at 17, pierce the insulation and are then bent inwards and back towards the web 14. The conductor 4 is gripped between the walls 16 and a lance 22 which is prevented from being forced into the plane of the web 14 by a coined portion 24. A hole is then punched through the cable in line with a hole 26 in the connector 12. When the post 6 is inserted through the hole 26 the walls 16 bend resiliently in this region but slots 20 prevent the movement from being transmitted to the portions of the walls 16 adjacent the lance 22. An alternative embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown) has two lances (22<1>) and two slots (20<1>) in each wall (16<1>). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,146,807.
