Abstract

1,038,360. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. Nov. 4, 1964 [Nov. 21, 1963], No. 44917/64. Heading H2E. A coaxial connector comprises a sleeve 22 having an enlarged forward bore 24 which tapers forwardly very slightly to hold by resilient distortion an insulating insert 38 carrying a hollow conductive pin 60. An annular flange 62 of the pin is accommodated in a complementarily shaped recess 48 in a second insulating insert 46 which has an externally tapering shoulder 30 to engage a similar taper on the inside of the sleeve between the two bores 24 and 32 of different diameters. The central core of the coaxial cable is crimped at 66 within the central pin 60, and the cable braiding is crimped between the outside of a part 32 of the sleeve 22 and the inside of the forward portion of a further sleeve 76, the rearward portion 74 of which is crimped round the outside of the cable insulation. When the connector is coupled to a mating connector, a ring 20 is screwed over a flange 27 and on to a similar part of the mating connector, the last part of the inside of the ring 20 having no screw thread so when its end engages the flange 27 the two connectors are relatively rotatable.
