Abstract
721,872. Two-part couplings. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. March 6, 1951 [March 7, 1950], No. 5461/51. Class 38 (1). In a modification of the plug or socket connector according to Specification 632,501, a resilient grommet 29 surrounding the connections between conductors 24, 25 and contact members such as 12, 14 is compressed radially on to said conductors and axially into abutting engagement with the resilient insert 11 carrying the contacts by a nut 41 screwing on to the shell 10 and acting through a ring 37 which presses on a sleeve 33 surrounding the grommet. The latter has a shoulder 60 engaged by sleeve 33 and in the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the sleeve has upwardly-extending resilient prongs 36 which are bent inwardly to compress the grommet by a coned surface 38 in the interior of ring 37 as nut 41 is tightened. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which a rigid sleeve 52 replaces sleeve 33, a flange 53 thereof being turned inwardly to engage the grommet. Additional means for gripping the conductors is carried by nut 41 and comprises a resilient grommet 49 held between a pair of arcuate clamping bars 47, 48, Fig. I, which are drawn together to compress the grommet by bolts 45, 46, passing loosely through lugs 44 on the nut.
