Abstract

685,003. Carrying cables through partitions. McGEOCH & CO., Ltd., W., and WATTS, H. S. Oct. 10, 1951 [Oct. 11, 1950], No. 24819/50. Class 36. [Also in Group XXVI] A cable gland comprises an externally threaded socket 1 formed with an axial hole 2 and a counterbore 3, a split collet 4 having a coned portion 7 and a cylindrical portion which fits the counterbore, a nut 5 threaded on to socket 1 and having an internal coned surface 6 mating with the surface 7, and a deformable washer 8 between the collet 4 and base of the counterbore 3. The socket 1 is threaded into a hole in wall 13, and nut 5 is passed over the end of a cable 12 from which part of the armouring 9 and covering 10 has been removed. After fitting the collet 4 and washer 8, the cable is passed through the socket 1 and the nut 5 tightened thereon to contract the collet and compress the washer 8.
