950,197. Mechanical couplings for cable sheathing. A. M. CHARPIGNY, J-L. MICHEL, and P. BAIGNOL. June 28, 1960 [June 29, 1959], No. 22670/60. Heading H2E. A gland for a cable 1 entering a box 3 is formed of insulating material and comprises a cylindrical male member 4 having an external flange 2 engaging the box wall and an inner, concentric, externally-tapered socket 6 which is slotted so as to be contractible on to the cable by the internally tapered surface of an inner ring member 10 in a nut 8 when the latter is screwed on to member 4. The surface of flange 2 which engages the base wall is grooved at 11 to enhance the seal between at this point. Fig. 2 shows another embodiment wherein the male member 12 has a tapered internal surface 15 which co-operates with the external, tapered surface 21 of a split, internal socket 19 in the nut 16 to contract said socket on to the cable.
