Abstract
912,306. Mechanical couplings for cable or wire armouring. HAWKE, W. April 20, 1961 [June 22, 1960], No. 21801/60. Class 38 (1). In a clamping gland for an armoured cable, similar to that described in Specification 872,376, wherein the armour C is clamped between tapered portions of nested sleeves D, F by screwing a cover E on to the gland body A, an end of the sleeve D is accommodated in a recess in the body A and a compressible washer G is located between a frusto-conical recess in the sleeve D and the frusto-conical end a6 of the recess a5 in the body A, the apical angle of the recess in the sleeve D being substantially less than that of the end a6 of the recess a5, so that when the gland is tightened the washer G is mainly deformed in an inward direction and towards the tapered end dl of the sleeve D and although the washer is then in weathertight engagemwnt with the cable sheath b 1 the washer is not inextricably jammed within the gland body A, undue deformation of the washer being prevented by a flange d3 on the sleeve engaging the end of the body A. The outer end of the cover E receives a nut H having an internal shoulder h1 whereby a further sealing washer K can be contracted about the external sheathing b2 of the cable B.
