Abstract
872,376. Mechanical couplings for cable armouring. HAWKE, W. Feb. 5, 1960 [July 4, 1959], No. 23064/59. Class 38 (1) In a clamping gland for an armoured cable wherein the armour C is clamped between tapered portions of nested sleeves D, F by screwing a cover E on to the gland body A and the thicker end of sleeve D is received in a counterbore a<5> in the body A, the end face a<6> of the counterbore and the adjacent end face d5 of the sleeve D are concave and bevelled at a<7>, d<6> whereby a deformable washer G compressed between said end faces to form a seal on the inner sheath b<1> of the cable is deformed radially inwardly and can expand along the cable without unduly compressing the sheath b<1>, the degree of compression of the washer being limited by engagement of a flange d<3> on the sleeve D with the end of body A. The outer end with the cover E may be screwthreaded to receive a nut (Fig. 3, not shown) for compressing a further sealing washer on to the outer sheath b<2> of the cable.
