Abstract
852,132. Mechanical couplings for cable coverings; junction boxes carrying cables through partitions. BRITISH ENGINES Ltd. Oct. 28, 1957 [Oct. 26, 1956], No. 32683/56. Classes 36 and 38(1) A watertight cable gland comprises-in its simplest form-two members 10, 11, the member 10 being secured to the apparatus to which the cable is to be led and the action of securing the member 11 to the member 10 by means of the threaded portions 21, 15 crimps the edge 17 of the portion 10 on to the cable sheath to form a watertight seal. If desired a further member 12 may be secured to the member 11 by means of the threaded portions 25, 19, whereby the cable armouring is clamped between the conical surfaces 26, 20. Again, if required the end 14 of the member 10 may be extended to form a sealing pot in which cable joints may be accommodated the sealing pot then being filled with a bituminous compound. A cable may be carried through a partition by passing a threaded tube through the partition, the tube being provided at each end with members 10, 11 (Fig. 4, not shown).
