Abstract
723,165. Junction boxes. HAWKE, W. July 17, 1953 [Aug. 8, 1952], No. 20003/52. Class 38 (1). A sealing box for enclosing the end of a cable B whose cores b<SP>2</SP> are joined to conductors E, comprises a hollow body A with apertures a<SP>5</SP> for the introduction of filling compound and closed by screw plugs, one end of the body receiving an externally screw-threaded, tubular member C which screws into a junction box &c. and through which pass the conductors E, a loose disc D with apertures for the conductors and held in place by a circlip F, closing the outer end of member C. The other end of body A has an aperture a<SP>1</SP> large enough to pass the cable sheath b<SP>1</SP> and opening into a screw-threaded socket a<SP>3</SP> which receives a spigot b<SP>1</SP> on a gland member H. Said spigot h<SP>1</SP> has a conical recess h<SP>3</SP> which receives a tapered sleeve K clamped on to the cable sheath by the screwing together of members A, H. In the case of an armoured cable member H has a further spigot h<SP>4</SP> to receive a cover L and armouring clamp as described in Specification 666,004. Where the sheath b<SP>1</SP> is metal, sleeve K provides a connection between the sheath and the junction box &c. Specification 686,299 also is referred to.
