Abstract
721,047. Mechanical couplings for cable covering; carrying conductors through partitions. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 25, 1952 [July 28, 1951], No. 17925/51. Classes 36 and 38 (1). To prevent access of moisture or gas to an electrical appliance 13 supplied by a cable 12, a gland filling has separate cable sealing and clamping elements. The hollow body 10 of the fitting houses a resilient sealing-ring 16 which is compressed between a flange 15 and a spigot 14 on the appliance 13. A clamping element formed of two strips 18 is housed in the body between flanges 21 and 15 and produces a slight " necking " of the cable sheath to prevent endwise movement of the cable. The wall of the body 10 is apertured at 22 so that the clamping element can be tightened or loosened when the fitting is installed and without moving the sealing ring. The body may, alternatively, be constructed in two detachablysecured parts containing, respectively, the clamping element and the sealing ring. Further, the clamping element may be split and of frustoconical form and tightened by means of a rotatable end cap.
