Abstract
892,410. Junction boxes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 2, 1960, No. 30365/60. Class 38 (1). A joint box for multi-conductor cables, particularly multi-conductor telecommunication cables, comprises a main joint box 1 having, at each end, a main cable clamp and seal 3 secured thereto and a secondary terminal box 2 secured and sealed between the main joint box and one of the main cable clamps and seals. The secondary terminal box is divided into three compartments by an inner wall 30 and a terminal block 35. The latter connects certain of the cable conductors 33 contained in a secondary cable 6 to a lead-out cable (not shown). Cable 6 is clamped and sealed to wall 30 by a gland 32. Each clamp and seal 3 comprises a conical portion 18 and a lead cone 20 between which the splayed-out armouring 19 of main cable 4 is clamped, the cable conductors passing through the cone for jointing in a conventional manner at 5. Filling compound may be poured into joint box 1 through filling port 56 and into the space between wall 30 and block 35 through a further port (not shown).
