Abstract
875,524. Cable joints; junction boxes. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Dec. 2, 1959 [Dec. 3, 1958], No. 39023/58. Class 38 (1). A cable joint or termination is enclosed in a housing comprising a pair of end walls 1 of moulded plastics material connected by a circumferential wall 2 of sheet material which is bent round the end walls and secured thereto by tape 17. At least one of the end walls is formed in two half-ring shaped parts 3 which, when held together by dove-tails 4, form a central aperture for the main cable 7. Knockouts are provided adjacent the joint between the parts which may provide openings for tapping and bonding conductors 10, 8. A unitary end wall, when provided, is also formed with knock-outs for cables. The meeting edges of the wall 2 are slit and bent up at 13 to form a filling well through which insulating compound may be introduced into the housing and mechanical protection for the housing may be afforded by a channel-shaped metal cover 14 placed over the housing and bonded to the cable 7 by the conductor 8.
